Chosen Exiles

Peter instructs Chosen Exiles to stand out by living in pure love (1 Peter 1:13-25). In order to live in love, Peter says, as Eugene Peterson puts it in The Message, that we must "clean house", getting rid of "malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk" (1 Peter 2:1). 

We readily agree that such cleaning up must take place, but where do we begin? This question becomes especially pointed, when we consider that Peter is calling upon us to do this in the face of negativity and hostility. How do we put away hate and vengeance towards people who are being hateful and hurtful towards us?! 

Once again, Peter picks up on cues from the Old Testament, which provide insight as to how we might clean up our hearts and attitudes and be filled with pure love while living as Chosen Exiles. We unpack these insights in this message.
