As we press on in our study in 1 Peter, we consider our identity as Exiles. As we do, we seek to discover that this metaphor Peter uses is an apt metaphor because it identifies people living in a land that is not their own, who endure suffering in their foreign land for being different, which creates a tension for them. Either they maintain their unique identity in the foreign land, or they assimilate to the culture 

In short, Peter exhorts that while they are exiles enduring suffering, don’t assimilate.
