We begin a series in the book of 1 Peter. From the very beginning of this little letter, Peter is concerned with disciples remembering their identity in relation to God and to this world. As such, we begin diving into the concept of our identity being Chosen Exiles. Chosen, identifies us in relation with God as His covenant people. We are not chosen instead of others, but rather chosen for the sake of the world. Exiles, identifies us in relation to this world. We have been reborn into a new citizenship, making us foreigners in this world. This does not mean that we withdraw from society, but that we neither fully assimilate nor completely withdraw, which we will learn to do as the letter progresses.
